Leave Only the Gate of the Buddha-Path
📖Master’s Reading
The human body hides seven windows by which the soul leaves; the truth of the dharmadhātu is that each window is like a lotus. We should not only let the lotus in the heart bloom but open all seven lotuses of the body one by one. Yet opening is only the process; knowing how to "close" is the key to liberation.
The mechanism at the crossing of life and death is: at the final opening, reciting "Oṃ Maṇi Padme Hūṃ," let the lotuses seal one by one, sealing to the last until only the one at the crown chakra opens. The Six-Syllable Great Bright Mantra is far more than a blessing mantra — it is the precise code to seal the road of the six realms of saṃsāra.
When we recite with focus, we block one by one the entrances to the hell, animal, hungry-ghost, human and even god realms. Why seal even the god realm? Because the god realm is only brief enjoyment of blessing; when the time comes, one still falls. When all exits of saṃsāra are thoroughly closed, the soul no longer drifts with karma, and only the buddha-path is left for you; the final gate reaches straight to the buddha-path.
Life has countless temptations that make the mind race outward. Practice is constantly gathering oneself in, re-concentrating scattered energy. When you know to seal the retreat-roads of saṃsāra with mantra, only one brightest road remains within. Focus on one direction, and the soul can reach the buddha-land Pure Land straight.
