The Six-Syllable Mantra Is the Signpost Home
📖Master’s Reading
Many recite the Six-Syllable Great Bright Mantra, seeing it only as repeated sound, overlooking the mighty power of thought-guidance behind it. The truth of the dharmadhātu is: reciting "Oṃ Maṇi Padme Hūṃ" can, on one hand, seal the entrances into the six realms of saṃsāra, leaving only the direction toward the Lotus World. These six syllables are far more than a mantra praying for peace — they are a precise signpost guiding the soul home.
When we recite, we should clearly visualize: this is closing, one by one, the entrances to the hell, animal, hungry-ghost, human, asura and even god realms. When the gates of the six realms are thoroughly blocked, the soul no longer drifts blindly with karma. Sealing to the last with the Great Bright Mantra, only the one lotus at the crown chakra opens, meaning it can seal the road of the six realms and leave only the buddha-path for you; the final gate is the buddha-path, and the other realms are blocked off.
Letting the mind abide in compassion and clarity, undrawn by worldly clinging, is building for your future self the signpost of return to the buddha-land. Life is a journey, and we will finally face the ultimate choice. Do not wait until death to seek direction in darkness; in ordinary time carve this mantra deep into the subconscious. When each thought is toward light and each step leaves suffering, the soul naturally follows the Lotus World's signpost back to the brightest home.
