Let the Mind Dwell in the Dharma and Light

📖Master’s Reading

The human mind is like a database of memory: what you store, it plays. The truth of the dharmadhātu is: at death or on entering the bardo, the scenes one sees are often projections of memory deep within. If in ordinary time the mind is full of fear, complaint and worldly attachment, karmic creditors and familiar illusions come tracing the line.

How to avoid being led by illusion? What should you place into your mind so these do not come for you? Place the Dharma, the bodhisattvas, mantras, the bright side — then your memory is these. Practice is consciously selecting memory for the soul. In ordinary time, store these images in, and what appears at the final stage will be these phenomena.

The point of practice is not only to fight darkness but to keep irrigating the soul with light. When you make the Dharma a daily habit, letting the mind be always full of bright memory, then at the great pass of life and death these accumulated good thoughts surface automatically and block ignorance and fear for you.

With light in the heart, there is a road underfoot. When you let the mind abide in the Dharma and light, dark karma naturally cannot approach, and the buddhas and bodhisattvas will surely trace this light to guide you safely toward the home of liberation.
