Once You Are Well, Help Others Become Well Too
📖Master’s Reading
True success lies not in how much you have but in how many people you can accomplish. If you fare well yet turn a blind eye to those who suffer, this blessing can hardly last. The truth of the dharmadhātu is: to help a person, the passive way is to give money and goods, which easily breeds dependence; the active way is to teach them how to break through hardship and create opportunity.
When someone around you falls into a dead end, if you can selflessly share the wisdom you have learned and the experience of passing through the valley, teaching them to change their destiny and rekindle the hope to live, this is immeasurable merit. This is the greatest blessing the Diamond Sūtra speaks of — "the giving of Dharma."
When you guide a person in difficulty to learn the method of leaving suffering and finding happiness, you not only save a life but create a valuable person for society. When they learn, they go on to teach the friends around them, letting this hope spread like ripples. Life's greatest value is to become the light in another's life. To perfect oneself alone is only cultivating the self; to benefit the world together is truly cultivating the heart. When you are willing to take another's hand and become well together, life connects to the cosmos's mightiest blessing and cycle of good.
