Benefiting Beings Is the Greatest Blessing
📖Master’s Reading
We often think charity of money is the greatest good deed, yet giving wealth can only relieve a moment's lack and cannot fundamentally solve life's plight. The truth of the dharmadhātu is: benefiting beings is the greatest blessing, and the Diamond Sūtra says the giving of Dharma is the very greatest blessing.
What exactly is the giving of Dharma? It is this: I learned a good idea here and give it to friends, relatives and family, letting them change to right thought, live with more hope, even saving a life, then guiding them to come and learn for themselves. The passive way is to give money-dependence; the active way is to teach them how to create opportunity and break through hardship. When you teach a person in dire straits to change their destiny, you not only save a life but truly contribute to society.
When they learn this wisdom of leaving suffering and finding happiness, they go on to teach those around them, letting more people live with hope. This ripple of good far exceeds the value of material money. This is creating merit and blessing for oneself.
Do not be stingy in sharing the wisdom and good thoughts you have learned. When you are willing to become one who passes on light and hope, this immeasurable merit of Dharma-giving finally becomes the firmest blessing in your life — and it "absolutely stays"!
