No One Is Truly Wrong
📖Master’s Reading
We habitually judge things by our own standard, and what does not suit us we deem wrong in others. Yet the truth is: things have no absolute right or wrong; it is all because the mind produces distinction. Pursued to the end, no one is truly wrong — and of course, neither are you.
Since no one is wrong, where does suffering come from? Only because we find another's doing displeasing and subjectively deem them wrong, and affliction follows. Worldly opposition all springs from the "discriminating mind" and "self-clinging." Everyone chooses from their own standpoint; if you force your own values to confine others, growing angry at what displeases you, you are only using another's behavior to torment yourself.
Think from another angle: "You do your thing, I do mine" — without interfering with each other, there is no trouble. Much of the world's disturbance has nothing to do with you; we feel tormented all because the discriminating mind is at work, breeding pointless suffering.
Practice is setting down the dualistic opposition of either-right-or-wrong. When you no longer grip "I must be right" and no longer demand of the world, the heart's capacity grows boundlessly wide. Understand that everyone has their own conditions, no longer judge lightly, and you can see the truth of life.
