Set Down the Self-Righteous You
📖Master’s Reading
What truly traps us is often not others but stubborn preconception. Why can we not open great wisdom? Because we care too much about the present, our thought stays in an existing frame, and we do not let higher-dimensional ideas in, so we are trapped in the afflictions of ordinary beings. Facing people and things, we habitually judge right and wrong by self-righteous standards, limiting the possibilities of the future.
The Diamond Sūtra's teaching of "anuttarā-samyak-saṃbodhi" is precisely to have us transcend worldly limits and create a boundlessly vast space of thought. The truth of awakening is simple: it lets you set down the worldly you, the ignorant you, the self-righteous you. When you are willing to empty out arrogance and prejudice and no longer view things from a narrow angle, true prajñā-wisdom naturally comes in.
"Give rise to the mind that dwells nowhere" is not letting the mind rest on any stubborn fixed point. Practice was never to add complicated ideas but to learn to set down the clinging that limits the self. When you no longer insist "I must be right" and open your heart to embrace different voices, the scope of life expands at once. No longer held hostage by a fixed frame, the soul welcomes true transformation and freedom.
