Destiny Is Reminding You to Repay a Debt

📖Master’s Reading

Some things repeat again and again in life, and we often think it just bad luck. Yet nothing under heaven is by chance; through these setbacks life reminds us of the karmic ledger not yet repaid. If this life you often have car accidents and must pay others' medical bills, it is often that you harmed people in a past life, and this life must take the money you earn to heal their wounds.

Karma and cause and effect are never off by a hair, a precise one-to-one collection. If you find accidents happening constantly, or hard-earned money always lost to various situations, even paid out as compensation, take heed: this is not heaven's unfairness but the karmic creditors you owed in past lives robbing your wealth midway. Because you harmed people in the past, this life you must bear medical costs and losses to repay.

Rather than complain about fate in the victim's role, bravely take responsibility and seek to mend. True practice is knowing how to repay debts with the "merit" of practice. We can, through practicing Medicine Buddha or doing good, dedicate the merit to the beings we harmed in past lives, asking the buddhas and bodhisattvas to heal them and dissolve the grievance. When you are willing to set down complaint and mend the debt with true repentance and real giving, the gears of karma begin to turn. Repaying with practice instead of cash, you no longer need to fill the black hole of karma endlessly with this life's blood-and-sweat money.
