Mend Whatever You Owe

📖Master’s Reading

Many learn countless methods yet always feel no effect, not knowing where to begin. In truth, the most important principle of mending destiny is "treat the ailment with the right medicine." There are thousands of Dharma methods under heaven — which one should you mend? The true wisdom is: "Mend what you owe; mend what is owed first, save the acute first, and tend the chronic slowly."

The least smooth place in life is often the hole you owed most in past lives and urgently need to fill this life. Handling karma is like seeing a doctor: you must first treat the most painful acute illness. When the debt-collectors are already at the door, you must repay this most pressing debt first. If you ignore the present crisis and blindly aim too high, running off to dedicate merit to karmic creditors of tens of thousands of lifetimes ago, your power is only scattered and cannot resolve the present difficulty at all.

Practice must never aim too high, doing a little of every method yet solving no core problem. If finances have a hole, mend finances first; if health has trouble, start from health; if love is discordant, mend the good connection first. When you are willing to honestly examine yourself, pinpoint the gap most in need of improvement now, concentrate your power to remedy it, and first level the most painful point, life's obstacles dissolve with it. Remember: mending the right problem is always more important than blindly seeking outward.
