Where It Hurts Most Is the Lesson
📖Master’s Reading
Many who practice like to pick the methods that interest them but will not face the most troubling problem. In truth, the least smooth place this life is often the deepest karmic obstacle of past and present lives. Where life hurts most and goes least smoothly is the hole you owed most in past lives and urgently need to mend. Practice must remedy the most painful point first.
Handling karma is like seeing a doctor: one must first treat the most painful acute illness, and tend chronic illness slowly. When the debt-collectors are at the door, you must repay first; a relative you owe, not urgent, can be paid slowly. You cannot say to the gangsters at your door, "I'll repay my relative first and you later" — that only invites greater disaster. So the karmic debts pressing us most urgently must be handled first.
True practice must never flee its particular lesson. Love goes badly — start from mending love; health is poor — start from remedying health; wealth has a hole — work from filling finances. Never aim too high and dedicate to karmic creditors of tens of thousands of lifetimes ago while turning a blind eye to the present plight. When you are willing to face the most painful gap squarely and steadily practice to compensate the difficulty, the greatest obstacle dissolves with it. Where it hurts most is often the very greatest opportunity to lead you to growth.

face the gap and mend it steadily — where it hurts most is the greatest opportunity.
