Life Is Only a Play

We are often crushed breathless by the love and hate of daily life, feeling our fixed fate is hard to change. Yet saṃsāra is in fact a stage play of "role-play." We are reborn life after life, sometimes acting in a martial-arts film, sometimes in a romance. A business partner of a past life may become a spouse in this one; though the costumes and sets change, the actors around us are often the same troupe, only playing a different plot.

Since life is a play, we should not lose ourselves too deeply in it, letting the soul be held hostage by worldly roles and emotion. What truly matters is not what role you play this life, but whether you can see through the illusory nature of this play and learn from it to let go and to rise. Past, present and future are one uncut line; though the past created the present, we can absolutely revise the plot of the future at any time.

We need not be trapped in the prison of fate, for "transforming the mind" is the most powerful way to rewrite life's script. When you see through cause and effect and, facing adversity, are willing to change old habits, every decision you make now is already reshaping the future. Let the thought of this moment turn, and tomorrow's plot is wholly different. See through this play, set down clinging to the role, and you take back the right to rewrite the script of life.
