No Meeting Is by Chance

We often think the people and things we meet in life are only brief coincidence. Yet every meeting in the world is cause and effect; all is the convergence of conditions, and nothing under heaven happens by chance. Among the vast sea of people, why is it precisely you and this person who become family, become husband and wife? All of it is drawn by relationships from past lives and deep karma.

Every person who appears in your life comes bearing some meaning that must be completed. No one comes to your side for no reason; there is always a cause behind it. Among these meetings, some are wholesome connections come to support you and repay a debt of gratitude; some are adverse connections come to test you and collect a debt. But remember, whether they give support or bring harm, they teach us, in different ways, the wisdom the soul lacks.

When we truly see through the cosmic law that "the effect forms because of the cause; without cause there is no effect," our way of viewing the world and others becomes wholly different. Knowing cause and effect, we no longer spend precious energy on pointless complaint and resentment, but begin to learn to contemplate inward. Try, with a calm mind, to consider the soul-lesson hidden behind each meeting, and learn to transform the mind and mend from it. When you no longer cling to surface love and hate, these adverse connections are no longer a prison that torments you, but a stepping-stone by which life sculpts you into a better person.
