Green Tārā Mantra: Benefits, Dakini Feast Day & the Fastest Blessing of the Degenerate Age — Teaching by Rinpoche Urgyen Topden

In the degenerate age, Tārā's blessing is the fastest.

Every year on the 25th day of the 7th Tibetan lunar month is Dakini Feast Day, when any good or bad action is multiplied one hundred thousand times—incomparably auspicious.

Tārā is the "Mother" who "liberates" (du 度) sentient beings. Like a mother, she gives us endless warmth. In life we have many wishes; to fulfill them is not merely a matter of a few prostrations or incense offerings—the key is knowing the right method.

Tārā: The Collection of All Buddhas' Activity

In Tibetan tradition, it is said:

Mañjuśrī is the collection of the wisdom of all Buddhas
Avalokiteśvara is the collection of the great compassion of all Buddhas
Tārā is the collection of the activity of all Buddhas

What is the activity of the Buddhas? First, to dispel the suffering of sentient beings; second, to place them in happiness. Tārā truly has unique abilities in these areas.

On this special day, whoever you are, if you have faith in Tārā, pray to her with reverence, and often recite her mantra, you will certainly receive her blessing. Together, recite 108 or more Green Tārā mantras:

Green Tārā Mantra

Oṃ Tāre Tuttāre Ture Svāhā

(Tibetan: Om Tare Tuttare Ture Soha)

Why Pray to Tārā in the Degenerate Age?

In the degenerate age, very few people can overcome adversity by their own power. Many wish to practice from beginning to end, but when afflictions or demonic obstacles arise, their mind loses control completely.

Yet Tārā possesses inconceivable ability. Therefore, if we pray to Tārā, under her blessing we can surely overcome all adversity.

The Three Essentials for Practitioners

Great Compassion, Great Wisdom, and Great Faith—please do not forget these three essentials.

If you possess these three virtues, all dakinis and the Three Roots will give rise to joy toward you. Like flowers attracting bees, those who possess these three virtues will naturally be surrounded and blessed by the dakinis and dharma protectors of the ten directions and three times.

Dakinis have many categories—such as those of the dharmakāya and sambhogakāya, or worldly and transcendent dakinis; among dharma protectors there are both worldly and transcendent. All dharma protectors and dakinis frequently bestow blessings and siddhis through pure wisdom.

Which Form of Tārā Is Best to Pray To?

Each being has different capacities. For wisdom, some prefer to pray to White Tārā; others feel greater response from Awareness Hūṃ Tārā.

In truth, you may pray to any form—the key is your faith and inclination. Whichever Tārā you have the most faith in, that is the one you will most easily resonate with.

Even Those Without Complex Practice Can Pray to Tārā

If you do not know complex Tārā sādhanas, follow this method:

How can I practice Tārā simply at home?

First, visualize Green Tārā or White Tārā in the space before you. Second, recite the Tārā mantra or praise with sincerity. Third, pray for Tārā's blessing. This method is very simple—even those who have not received empowerment may recite and visualize.

From now on, whenever you wish to dispel adversity for yourself or others, pray sincerely to Tārā. If you don't have time for the full "Praise to Tārā," you may simply recite the mantra "Oṃ Tāre Tuttāre Ture Svāhā."

Conclusion

With faith, by relying on Tārā's powerful blessing, all adversity will be dispelled. 🙏
